It looks like acid has been sprayed all over my car, tiny little pitting all over it.

Hi. Where is the car parked, could something have dripped on it. It looks similar to one I saw that had been stored in an underground car park and water had been dripping on it leaving limescale on it and leaving a general mess. Difficult to say from the pics. Whereabouts are you, I could steer you towards someone

I live in Cheshire.

The car normally lives under a carport, it was fine about a week and a half ago. But I got it back from the dealer yesterday and it now looks like a barn find.

I have had a quick go at it in one area, and the only thing that I could make a slight difference with was G7 Farecla.

Had any welding been done on the car or near the car by any chance?I had a lot of welding work done on a works van a few years back and when i got it back the paint looked similar. It was caused from the showers of sparks from the welding. It wasnt until it rained and all the tiny specks of metal from the sparks that had stuck to the paint turned to rust that i actually noticed!

Luckily it was an old van and a few hours with cutting compound sorted it out.

If there are some ferrous deposits then a does of Iron Cut might help here. Worth a try before cutting paint back. It looks like a car that has been outside an old chemical plant for a while and been the recipient of corrosive deposition

Hi,

I've seen this before too, a wash with "Iron Cut Soap Gel" and a good polish should get rid of that.

Cheers,

Michael.

Surely just take it back to the dealer? Or at the very least try and find what they did to it, or where they parked it.

They are a total pain, and knowing them they will not be able to see it.

Just like the loud grinding noise the steering adjust makes, and the indicator stalk that constantly rattles. It all sounds normal. (They did see the smoke coming out from behind the steering wheel in the end)

Out of stock here, but google should bring another supplier up:

http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/CarPro_Iron_...

I need to get some myself after I've finshed welding my car as it's hard to avoid metal particles landing on the car even with a dust sheet...

Unfortunately we are out now also frown

As for the pictures, I'd try a tar and glue remover first and see if that shifts it.

The othet thing to try is a clay kit which will remove contamination above the surface of the paint.

in all honesty I think the images are too close to get a good idea of what it actually is, when I am looking at a defect i dont tend to generally stick my nose right up to it, maybe try some different shots a bit further away....i would even hazard a guess at what it is mate....

My thoughts too, the pics are so localised its very difficult to actually work out what we're looking at.
Where on the car is the damage, is it all over or just localised, is it a contaminant that has settled on the surface, or could it be within/under the paint, causing it to blister?
