Bike License in NSW

Right well, I turn 30 this month and i still haven't taken my bike license. Thinking I might treat myself - I've just moved to NSW from WA and have yet to go through the PITA of changing my license (why can't you guys just have a federal license, instead of state ones?? What difference does it make??) - anyway, just wondered what the hoops were to get the license here..?
