Hi guys,
I read on the forum that those responsible for the TWR Group 1 BMW were myself and Spike Anderson. This is not so. It was Spike (John) Winter. He and I formed Racing Services (Engines) Ltd in 1967 and Tom Walkinshaw was an early client and remained one until 1982. Spike is still around enjoying his retirement and I am still active as a consultant. Spike Winter has one hell of a history and prior to our partnership he was senior engineer at the John Willment Racing team and prior to that he was with Frazer Nash and once used to mechanic for our very own Sir Stirling Moss. When I left our partnership in 1984 to form Brodie Brittain Racing, Spike turned his attentions to restoring old racing engines such as BRM f1, Jaguar D & C types, Type 33 Alfa Romeo and of course his MG engines became legendary. He retired 2 years ago when he reached his eighties!
Best wishes to all

Please tell us more stories.
There are a lot of people on here that will love reading anything you have to write.
Any recollections and photos of your days running the RS500 touring cars would be great Ken. I called in to collect some parts for my cosworth probably 12 years ago now, and had a guided tour around your premises by David which included a quick hello to you when you you were busy in your office.
Getting to see the row of brand new crate RS500 engines and the two road 4x4 RS500 you were building for yourselves made my day, I saw pics of the XJ220 maroon complete one a few years later but did your one ever get finished, it was still a prepared bare shell when I was there.

Plus 1 here, it's history now but damned interesting history and easily lost. And it's the wee things we like to here about, not just the 'big' moments. Please tell us more stories.

Hi Guys,
Having opened my mouth to mention my old partner Spike Winter, he sadly passed away on the night of 14th May. The funeral is tomorrow, 1st June and a huge crowd is expected.
Hi obituary which I wrote should be in print with various mags by now.
RIP Spike.
Lots of mis-understanings on everyone's roles. I designed the Mazda turbo conversion for Mazda GB which was sold as an official model in the UK but as aftermarket in the United States and most of Europe. It passed every emission test first go including the CARB in California. We made over 1,000 of these and many are still running with devotees in the USA. There have been lots of other kits since, mostly supercharging. We did play with that for a while but BBR officially dissolved about 2,000 - 2001. Its a different company now with different people and I believe that they may be offering stuff for old Mazdas. Caveat Emptor!

Thanks for your reply.
I emailed you direct on Tuesday to your consulting firm and then a mate told me about Spikes passing. Bad timing on my part.
I have removed the inlet and exhaust/turbo manifolds to my surprise and have found the engine to be bridge ported. Was that done by yourselves as part of the conversion or do you think someone else has got in there after you.
Could you email me on sellabitnz@ yahoo.co.nz (remove the space afetr sellabitnz. I am heavily involved with Farnborough District Motor Club and have some other questions to ask.
Again, sorry to hear about Spike
