Just curious if this car is still going?

Its a long story but I sort of lost it many (8-10) years ago, I still have the log book V5, original sales recpit from the Ford garage in Bridgend back in June 1969, loads of MOT's, service history from 69 till 90's and a set of keys, just not the car!

It was only a 1300 but I did a couple of track days a Castle Coombe and with plenty of instruction could keep up with the rich boys in the 328i's (before they decided to also have an instructor on board).

I guess when the council found it in the lock up that I had stopped paying for (as I lost my business and was somewhat in a huge finacial hole) they just binned it, it wasn't till a few years later that I mamaged a trip back to Wales with the keys and a lot of hope....only to find a new row of garages!

It would be great if she was still running as I feel there very few cars a pleasing to the eye as a Mk1 Capri, and if so you would be welcome to the document history.

Thats interesting, I think I last saw it in 01 or 02 and checked on it without success in 05 so someone gave it a go if last taxed from 3-06 to 3-07.

Hi

http://www.caprimk1ownersclub.com/The%20List/VTX77...

Here is a picture of your car, I guess it could be when you owned it ??

The picture I would guess to be a Capri Club International Event at Stoneleigh.

From my understanding I don't think there has been a Stoneleigh event since around 2003 at the latest.

How did the council sell it on though - I would presume if they were looking to flatten the garages they would have written to your last known address?

And if you weren't paying for it maybe they took it in lieu of rent not paid - can they legally do this though - I have no idea.

Too good to scrap though although I put nothing past bean counters in councils nowadays - I would phone the bloody council and ask them what happened to it!

Wow, I never expected to see a photo on line, that looks fantastic but I thnk maybe after I had it, however it looks like it still had the green boot lid rather than gold.
Next time i get back home to the UK I will have to dig out all the paperwork, look at the dates and search again. I really hope it has been, or is being restored, the sills were looking ropey and there was plenty of rust happening underneath. I only ever had a couple of photos of it from one time a Castle Coombe but I reckon I must have lost them.

This is totally the wrong time to get nostalgic about an old car, we are living in Italy, second baby on the way, house in UK needs work, I'm last on the list for money in our house, but one thing I do know, if the lottery numbers all line up I will have loads of cars but none built after 1973 and a Mk1 Capri would be top of the list (obviously the wife would have some sort of modern thing).

Looked at the photo again and think this may be before I had it, as (forgive me I was young)there is no shiny K&N filter and brightly coloured go faster plug leads, however they are easily removed.

This particular car had a few tweaks including uprated Lotus cortina front brakes and a better exhaust manifold, I know it was only 1300 but it was fun flat out and you felt like a hero....... whilst a modern hatch could walk on by.

Well its only been off the road since 2007 hardly gloom and doom. Not a lot of MK1's getting broke.

I would say its definately stoneleigh without a doubt. Sadly the picture don't show enough to date it better.

If you contact CCI they will tell you how many years they ran Stoneleigh, you can mail them via their website Sally club Sec is sure to know. A friend in Kend had a 1.3 in the right period that I recall went to Ireland but I seem to think it was brown not gold. A lot of cars have gone to Ireland and no longer show on the DVLA.

I was lucky. I married a Capri Mad Wife (or unlucky as many might say). One thing I do know having 2 kids 4 Capri's and NO PEOPLE CARRIERS ! is that before you know it money will be back again and MK1 Capris will never be Aston Martin money so you will get there. Even MK1 RS2000's although expensive its only the price of a new Focus. For me personally I would rather drive a MK1 Escort RS2000 20 days a year and a 12 year old honda accord every day than a new Focus daily.

Luckily I (or unluckily) we drive his and hers 1.6 Capri's daily (With the nice toys tucked away).

Was it deffo a council garage? i know private garage rentals would of had the car removed and given to the removal agent in leu of fees for the removal, i used to do this for a living myself, nowdays they have to store it for a certain time and contact the current keeper (they get the address through the DVLA for a fee) if no contact is forthcoming the agent usually destroys the vehical to save all the hassles if the keeper reapears but i used to get a new V5 in my name then sell the vehical on to enthusiasts or break em if they were too rotten.
Sounds like the council may have contracted the removal out and the removal agent has applyed the V5 and sold it on, nowdays the car would be collected by a removal agent (a large vehical breakers usually) and most likely get a destruction notice on it and end up on the track frown

The date of liability states that it was last taxed in 2007, which is less than 5 years ago - so was somebody driving it after you?

This si what I found strange ... if someone had *disposed* of it - surely it is illegal to just apply for a V5 and then sell it on - it ain't yours ffs!
