Jaguar XJR-9LM 1988

Guys,

I remember at the 1987 Silverstone 1000kms, there was a Jaguar XJR-9LM driven by Brundle and Nielsen. The car looked identical to the XJR-8 apart from a slightly different rear wing and mount, large headlamp covers and the omission of rear wheel covers.

I've seen pictures of the 1988 XJR9-LM Le Mans winner apparently both with and without rear wheel covers:

Presumably the 'no wheel cover' XJR-9LM simply that: the XJR9-LM with the covers removed, or were these different cars under the skin (not sure if the above pics are indeed the same race and car) To confuse matters more, the '87 1000kms covered wheel version was called the "sprint" version, and the open wheeler the "LM", yet IIRC the open wheelers weren't used for the 1000kms races that year.

I have a model of the '88 Le Mans winner that I'm building for the Pistonheads group build, and wondered if I could cut the rear weel covers off to make an accurate 'open wheel' version. I always thought they looked much nicer open wheeled - the wheel covers make them look like wheelbarrows.

Are there any good books on the technical details of the XJR series?

I don't have a copy but the Bamsey book sounds like it would be pretty good.

Thanks - I've seen that book - back in the day! Might have a go at it.

The 'walkaround' pics...are they of the car in it's original spec wonder?
