SOrry if this is a repost. I did a search.

I don't normally watch classic programmes as they tend to be rather static and don't tell me anything I don't already know. However, am watching this on Discovery Turbo and really enjoying seeing the cars in motion. An excellent selection of ex-works and other significant cars driven quite spiritedly in some cases.

Are the cars from a single collection? I'd guess they are somewhere in California from the background.

Having watched a bit more I have realised it must be the Jaguar collection and therefore is probably in the UK on a sunny day!

The VBD prog on Alfa Romeo & on Maserati were very good too. Presented by someone who knows rather than some tit like Clarkson et al. This is what Top Gear should be like

I thought somewhere in the credits it said it was the Goodwood estate?

It was filmed in the UK and the USA. I think the circuit around the lake is at Sir Anthony Bamford's (JCB) Oddington House on the Daylesford Estate, in the cotswolds.

A very enjoyable series, at least Alain the Cad is a been there done that guy who really does know his stuff.
I still think the clip of him being buzzed by a Spitfire is one of the best on Utube.biggrin

I think I'd like him more if I hadn't read his account of falling asleep at the wheel of some exotic sports racer and smearing it all down the central divide of a public road.

It is an excellent series, the guy has both raced and owned a fair few of the cars discussed and you actually see the things being driven, even if not flat out enough to make interesting viewing.

Does anyone know how may episodes were originally made? I have it on my sky+ series link, but never seem to get anything beyond episode 7, I'm sure there must be a Porsche episode that I havent yet seen?

Porsche was the first prog made.

Looks like there's about 9 or 10

Porsche
Ferrari
Maserati
Aston Martin
Jaguar
Alfa Romeo
Ford(s)
Lotus
Corvette

for certain, also rumours of a special on 'American Motors Corporation soon, featuring the Eagle SX/4, AMX, Rebel Machine, and many more...'

They are all available on DVD, the Ferrari and Alfa episodes are simply awesome with an amazing collection lined up. Driving the Dino 246s around Sounth Ken looks fun!

This has just become my new favourite car programme. Alain de Cadenet
may be a bit posh.... but the man loves cars and he has done a bit
of proper driving in his day.

Something, that can't be said of Clarkson and his mates.
And the cars featured, ( some of which are worth a LOT of dough !)
are actually driven with some gusto !

This is more like it ! we may know a lot of the information already...
so what ?
A proper D-type, Shelby Daytona, etc, actually being used still
floats my boat.
Keep them coming A de C, you've got my vote !

I really enjoyed the series......Well most of it. Didn't catch the Mazzer or the Porsche one though.

Moreover, I am now a Ferrari convert. Didn't really get them before (although I didn't really bother TBH). But now having watched the Ferrari episode, I see them with from a whole new perspective. Admittedly, before I likened them to Afghan Hounds I guess, very temperamental and skittish, (being (I guess) a typical diehard, BMW, Porsche fan). However, now having had a pretty comprehensive history lesson, I now get it. smile

Now affording one…..mmmmm……now that’s a whole other matter.

I wish he didn't feel he has to walk round and round every time he talks about a car...it's making me nauseous!

I know what you mean - but at the same time, he's letting viewers see the cars from all angles, and doing his bit to camera as a single long shot - no cutaways, no voiceovers - it's a superb presentation and really impressive!

I found it a very refreshing change to the frenetic presentation of other motoring programmes. I know it's a documentary series, not a car-based show, but how welcome is it to watch a presenter who knows his stuff, can get it across well and can drive sensibly.

Yes, I have just caught onto this series and have realy enjoyed it - much more of an enthusiasts program without all the pointless smoke and mirrors nonsense we have been forced to accept in recent years - just good straight honest production - man and car only.

The question I have is what car do they use to pursue A de C on the track or road to get the chasing footage - can't remember which car it was (might have bene the Maserati 300S) but A de C was cetainly pressing on and yet the pursuit car was hot on his heals for some excellent footage.
