Good pics lowdrag, thanks for posting. One obvious ommission though: the Ferrari 250LM (vrm 7 RAT I think) which smoked it's way to a win!

And a few others:-

For some reason I seem to have missed the Grantura. Must try harder! Now down to sorting about 3,000 photos of "the other race".
Super pictures Lowdrag, many thanks for sharing.
Did you notice something hanging from the front n/s suspension of the No. 49 (Tony Pickering) D Type later in the race?
It had disappeared later on after having been (wrongly) suspected by the commentator as a piece of the exhaust. If you look really carefully at the Eurosport coverage on U-tube you can just make out what appears to be a dead rabbit!

Heard briefly on the TV that said that Stirling Moss, who alegedly was there, has decided to retire form competative driving having given himself a big scare. Any truth in that?
G
It was after the Thursday classic practice he announced his retirement. His co-driver took out the Porsche and Sir Stirling only did one lap, rather slowly. He always said that if he felt he was becoming a danger to others and himself he would quit, and he did just that, not coming out at all in the Saturday race. It had to come some day, but the world is a poorer place for this loss. On a brighter note, I have managed to insure a 90 yr old to drive my C-type at the Festival of Speed, and I reckon Norman Dewis won't be holding back!G
Lowdrag:
In your photograph at Indianapolis on Thursday you can't see the front nearside suspension of Tony Pickering's D type (No. 49) - I was looking at the recording of the Eurosport coverage of the actual race (second part).
Anyway, if that was a rabbit in your photograph, maybe it picked up another one during the race?
If you look closely at the film you can just about make out the ears and a leg!
In the Eurosport recording of the race on Utube it can be seen in the second part at about 4min. 46 secs.
Since you live nearby, maybe you could arange a nightime rabbit shoot for the Friday night as a alternative to the hooligan activities elsewhere?

Thanks for that LD, I wasn't sure it was for real, as you say 'twil be a poorer place, lets hope he continues to enter his cars for other drivers so that he will still be about. As ever he does things in full control with consideration for others.G
