Windscreen broken whilst car being painted
Discussion
Hi,
I wonder if anyone has any advice please.
I was having some paintwork done on one of my cars and to do the job properly the screens came out - the garage did warn me that as they were over 40 years old there was a risk they could break when being removed...
I have been told that the garage used an independent windscreen specialist to remove the windows and fortunately they came out fine.
Unfortunately the front screen broke when it was being re-fitted.
The garage have made no mention of this being covered by any insurance and consider it a fair risk of the work undertaken.
As an independant specialist was used for the windscreen work should I expect them to be covered by insurance against this sort of thing - after eventually finding a replacement screen the cost was in excess of a grand.
Many thanks for your thoughts,
John.

I'm not sure of the answer but assuming it was the window people that put the windscreen back in they where working for the garage not you and may have had trade terms and conditions with the garage not you, your contract is with the garage
having worked in retail for many years and also having much personal experience of the motor trade I know the customer is not always right and that some are lies, chancers and con-artists - just like some businesses (this statement is not aimed at you, the garage or window people it's a general statement)

Unfortunately unless the windscreen fitter supplied the glass it won't be covered.
We operate the same policy & it is pretty standard throughout the industry, also glass is not covered on most (if not all) trade policies unless as above the glass is supplied by the fitter or garage in question.
Sorry!
Hope you can get it sorted, Al.

Thanks - if you ever get one be careful not to break the windscreen. Took months of searching and eventually it had to be made in Italy...
Just checked and the tooling for your Maserati is still listed as a current part by the Pilkington factory in the UK which specialises in classics.Gassing Station | Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
