Was JUST hopping onto a tram when this pulled alongside at the lights; I had a few seconds to catch a snap before it drove off, and didn't get the chance to look at the plates.

Thought it was British, but now I'm not so sure...

Rubbish at these but looks a bit like an Alfa to me. Sure someone more knowledgeable will be along soon to show me I'm wrong.

Oh yeah, third series, that's what stumped me. I even looked at a picture of a Spider and thought "nahhh, Spiders don't have that big black plastic block on the back, only British Leyland would be that tacky."

Thanks guys.

I think the earlier models were much attractive, with the shorter boot and narrower bumpers.

The car had been ruined by that stage: - big bumpers, too much weight, and over wide wheels. The 70s ones have purer looks and are better to drive.

I always loved those 5 spoke wheels though. Looked very similar to the 80s ferrari ones on the 308.

One starred extensively in the film "The Graduate" with a young Dustin Hoffman

Soundtrack by Simon & Garfunkel "Mrs. Robinson" - fabulous period film

The car in "The Graduate" was the earlier boat tailed version of the Spider. The car acquired a Kamm tail and a larger engine after that, but before it also acquired the rubber bumpers, spoiler etc.
