As much as I love 'em, this Escort price thing is getting a bit ridiculous if you ask me!

Crazy money, all Escorts are. That 'mint' car appears to have rusty bits all over in the pics.

I learned to drive in a brand new MK1 Escort. Cheap and cheerful at the time.

Fools and money easily parted, etc....don't care what it's got under the bonnet.

Give me a nice MK3 Cortina 2000 GXL anytime. biggrin

It appears to need some serious money spending on it...so £30+k is just a joke imoa

I've seen them selling dear, rally escorts, but compared to the one above this seems a well put togather car albeit at a dear price:-

I just can't figure it, but then historic rallying has taken off big time so I guess that's the reason.

It's a shame as I still miss my Mk2 Escort that I had as a second car, but there is no way I'd pay that sort of money for one.

Here's why the prices are now rocketing.
In the late 70's and early 80's a lot of "lads" were running Escorts as they could be bought for between £200 and £500 with an MOT. Those "Lads" are now in their late 40's/ early 50's. Many have just finished paying their mortgages off and their kids have just about left home. All of a suddern their financial commitments have melted away and they now have cash....And plenty of it and want to re live their youth. Only this time they don't want an Escort that the strut tops force the bonnet open and there is tarmac under the carpet instead of floor... I know, I was one of them, Sadly I left buying a house and having kids a little late so I can't have one, though I was a little flush in 2005 so I bought one then and kept it for a few months to get it out of my system smile

I'm a carpet where the floor should be guy as well...and I'm on the look out for a Supersport to relive my youth, but no way would I blow this kind of money on whats not even a mint example.

In the late 70s (when in my 20s) I had a new MK 2 Escort for work, and a S3 Lotus 7 for the weekend.

I know which one I'd rather still have. frown

I think for the asking price, he has written very little about it, and the usual "selling for a friend" routine. I'm sure it must be £3,600.

While I agree with entirely the points above (i.e. it seems Bl**dy expensive) it's a pretty rare version of the escort and there's a BDA motor lurking under the bonnet (£5k+?)...

It's a lot of money but bear in mind there were only 25-50 made according to Jeremy Waltons book. Apparently Ford weren't sure how many were made or converted from 1600 Sports.

Agreed - although this is also a rare car - check out the price of Fizzys and RD250LCs for the motorcyle equivilent.

Welcome to the current world of Escort MKI and MKII prices !

The RS1800 (Ford production road version) is reputed to have been a limited run of only 109 cars.

Many rally variants and "built from parts" cars are out there but are not recognised as a "production" RS

The car currently on Ebay is recognised as being one of the 109 and this reflects in the perceived high price.

So glad I purchased my own MKII RS2000 over 10 years ago

I run a website that caters for the MKI and MKII Escort - www.rallyesportescorts.co.uk and the prices that RS variants go for is scarey - a previous comment regarding 40 something buying Escorts is very true and many of us not only have an Escort but also have Raleigh Choppers, Adidas Kick trainers and Fila tracky tops - lol

And my first legal road bike at 16 was a Honda SS50 5 Speed Special
