Classic Insurance
Discussion
Hi all,
I have had my Porsche 968 garaged for the past 3 years. When I took it off the road it was under classic car insurance as I had a second car and didn't want it to use my no claims bonus, plus it only did a couple of thousand miles a year.
Anyhow I am planning to finally put it back onto the road next week and started looking at insurance. Everywhere I look (on-line) they are asking for my no claims discount? Has something changed that now I have to use my no claims on a classic car, or is it just to see that I don't have a habit of crashing into things?
Also does anyone have any recommendations on decent companies.
Thanks
Mark

Try phoning a few brokers.
The problem with internet is that it can be too generic. Many classic car policies don't do NCB, some may ask what you've earnt on a main vehicle if it's a requirement to have a main car.
I've never managed to satisfactorily get classic quotes on line. Anything out of the ordinary seems to confuse the computer, ie I garage one of them at a different address. No problem on the phone though.

The NCD is partly a measure of risk and partly a loyalty bonus - you current insurer discounts their premium to try and get you to remain with them.
Of course most insurers do this and all know about it so they ask you what your NCD is so they can discount their quite to make it competitive with your renewal.
If you've had insurance in your name on another vehicle and built up a NCD put it in. If you haven't got a NCD (not had a car insured in your name without an claim or had insurance that doesn't accrue NCD, like classic policies) then just put in '0'.
I've never had any NCD for example, not because I'm making claims every year but because I've always owned classics insured on policies that don't accrue NCD and never had any trouble getting them installed.
