Good evening.

Need to have a vinyl roof fitted on this Rover 800 limo but can't find anyone able to do the job. Any ideas or recommendations (car is in Southampton)

Many thanks

I believe that http://southwestsunroofs.co.uk/contact-us may be able to help you. Not exactly in Southampton but not too far away.

You could try a boat suppliy person (Chandelers?); I seem to remember someone in Practical Classics doing that.

Pretty much any auto upholsterer should be able to help. It is a good time to sort window rubbers and any chrome trim that may fit around it.

If it has had a vinyl roof from new then unless you can do the work yourself I would take it to a body shop first as there will usually be rust under there. But speak to the upholsterer first. It really isnt that hard to do...even though I stuffed it up smile

One difficulty will be with the finisher trims around the glass. In the 70s and 80s when vinyl roofs were very popular, most front and rear screens were fitted in rubber. This gave good tolerance for the extra thickness and seam lines of the vinyl. More modern cars like the OP's Rover 800 have very small tolerances around the glass and a very slim trim/finisher to bridge the gap between glass and body.

Hi, did you get the roof fitted in the end? (I realise the original post was about 5 years ago now)

Just interested to know a rough price for the job for a project I've got going round my head at the moment...

Cheers, Garf

There used to be a bloke called Brian Johnson who was a really good vinyl roof fitter, he may have changed careers though. Google him
