where can i get old black/silver number plates (embossed)?
Discussion
i want to get some of the above. my series 2 lightweight landrover would look really good with the traditional silver on black number plates.
i have looked at various "show plate" websites and they will do the colours but not the old style embossed metal ones.
anyone know where i can get some from?
thanks.

the problem seems to be that although the car is 40 ish years old, it was registered when it left the army (obviously) but that means it comes up and an early W reg (1983?) so i think my ££££'s restoration is now soewhat buggered because it have to have crap looking yellow/white plates.
any other ideas?

yesany other ideas?
if you'd have put this at the start you could have been helped sooner
yellow/white are much more sensible if the vehicle is to be used on the road and were about along time before they became compulsory
are you after show plate or road plates ?
what date or year was your Landie manufactured ?
i'm now onto show plates. i'm waiting for a company in germany to get back to me.
i didnt mention it in the original post as i didnt see it being an issue to be honest. i didnt realise that the rules were so strict nowadays.
i obviously cant use the show plates on the road but most places now dont make showplates at all due to the legality - never mind the pressed ones.
thanks for the help though everyone that has put info forward.

Vehicles made before 1 January 1973 may display traditional style “black and white” number plates, for example, white, silver or grey characters on a black plate

Perhaps you can get a personnal plate such as ANY123L or ask the DVLA for a (true) age related plate. It might then be easier to get in black, than a W plate - which would look odd not in yellow.ETA: but then I think DS, SV and BF plates look odd on vintage cars

My 1972 Opel Manta A series was originally from Switzerland and came into this country in 1975, when it arrived the DVLA (or their 75 incarnation) gave the car a 1975 plate.
I bought it as a 75 car, when I restored it I noticed the chassis number was too high for a 75 car, I contacted DVLA and got an age related plate for it which is black and silver and can now claim free road tax as well !
Framptons supplied the black and silver pressed plates.
