I'll be going to the show at Tewkesbury. Park the car at the show, walk to the inlaws for a roast and back to the show.

I stopped going to the big shows when it became apparrent that the large exhibition companies organising them were only interested in making a fast buck out of classic car enthusiasts.
Small local shows and club organised events are now the order of the day.
I'm with you on this one Small local shows and club organised events are now the order of the day.

I try to stick to Steam/Country shows with plenty of attractions that give free entry for classic cars, always a good summer day out.Small classic gatherings are better than big commercialized shows. One small one near us on Sept24th is the Alton Herold Classic Car Show in the market square. There is also a rally tour early in the morning.Trouble is its getting near the end of show season,my old classic will be put into hibernation in October till April.
here here i am sick of paying big entry fees (£7) at thoresby hall ok it was a big show
and i did enjoy it but hang on here if us classic car owners dont go and it was a 120 mile round trip
there aint no show harewood house which is near me is the same next year im boycottimg them and sticking to local shows only lets make a stand classic car owners its not right

I agree some of these so called "shows" are just taking advantage of classic car owners. My choice recently, Beaulieu Classic £15 each to get in!sod off!!OR a Big Country Show at Reading, free entry for two in a classic car, lots of interesting cars, attractions, all the fun of the fair.Like I said stick to Steam rallies,Country Shows etc there loads all over the UK,stay in a lovely old pub and make a w/end of it.
Hoping to take delivery of a Jensen by the end of this week in time for the PH Sunday Service next weekend... will also try to get her out to a few more shows this year before she's hibernated away for the winter.
Based on the Hants/Surrey border, so any show advice gratefully received - the Alton one sounds interesting!

Thanks for that - I'm taking her to the Sunday Service this weekend, and work on Saturday prevents any fun!I've put the Alton show in my diary though

End of September is "that" time of the year.Bit depressing, winter`s coming, put the old classic into hibernation, fit the hard top on the Merc`SL.No more sunny drives and shows till next year.
glass half empty then.October can often be quite nice I will wait until November before taking my car off the road.

So until the salt trucks come out, I'll be having some weekends fun

We didn't do classic shows in the UK and don't in France either - even though they tend to be local get-togethers. I guess this is an unpopular view but it seems to me there are more show-offs at these events than everyday enthusiasts and, as I can't knit, there doesn't seem much point in sitting around all day. Our old car is in quite good nick but I don't feel the need to show it off all the time.
Luckily, around here (SW) there isn't a close season because there are warmish days even in mid-winter and only the autoroute gets salted, so driving an old car just for the enjoyment of it is still an option.

We went to Cholomondley on sunday parked with the other no showing cars had a good walk around and a chat here and there and got back home at 2pm. I get bored easily and the thought of sitting around for best part of 9 hours would drive me insane.Luckily, around here (SW) there isn't a close season because there are warmish days even in mid-winter and only the autoroute gets salted, so driving an old car just for the enjoyment of it is still an option.
