I want to assemble the jag with all the nuts and bolts and brackets zinc plated nicely.

Are the DIY kits on ebay and from the likes of Frost any good?

if you have a qty of stuff to do its better just to pay a proper plater to do them as its fairly cheap.

the problem with the little kits is that its a struggle to get the plating to give an even coating and its very slow.

when compared to what a proper plater can do, the plate is so even coloured and what not that its just not worth the hassle.

I wouldn't bother witht he DIY kits when the professional platers do it so well, and at a fair price. The one I use charges about £20 for a small carrier-bag full of stuff including nut, bolts, carb brackets, clips etc and the quality is perfectly OK:-

Makes a huge difference to the finished car IMHO

Yes, I've used the local plater befroe, several different places, but there is always a risk they'll loose a few bits, they take weeks and minimum charge round here is now £35.

The main thought for wanting to do this is I reckon it would be a nice way to spend the long winter nights pottering away in the garage doing bits.

As long as the results can be ok, it doesn't matter if its time consuming or not cost effective.

I'm surprised there is not more discussion on this, seems to me to be something that could be really handy for the home car fiddler.

All I wondered was if the plating quality was ok?
