Some would say 'keep your powder dry'?

I have seen an advert for a car, being sold by auction, I intend to go and view and if its ok to bid.

I nearly started a thread showing the car, but decided that I might just keep quiet, last thing I want to do is add to the marketing of the auction company by starting a thread and hence someone outbidding me!

Its a default choice really.

A friend of mine did the same. If he had said something, we would have told him not to buy it, because it was a wreck.

Just make sure you take a good look at it.

I won't be bidding, but now am just curious as to what the car is.

Typically I have the breaking strain of a custard, but I'm keeping quiet about this one.

No clues.

To the OP quite right. Even the auctioneers have been known to bif you against the wall, and if they uhear of someone showing real inerest, this might cost you more then you might think...

Keeping quiet is sometimes hard. I once got the DVLA to auction the reverse of the 1954 D-type registrations, 1 OKV etc, and C&SC wrote it up. Result was £11,000 for one of them and me left high and dry. So I'll keep stum if I was you, no matter what it is you are bidding for!

I know of a very, very nice car for sale, one of the first 50 ever produced and very, very rare to see one this early. It has all the lovely touches that the early cars had, and that the aficionado will spot.

It's mechanically perfect but needs a respray. Well...if you're fussy it needs a respray. It drives superbly and is virtually original. Very fast and unquestionably an early 1960's icon.

The buyer is prepared to take...let's just say if it was in a dealer it would make two and a half times what he's talking about. But only because he'd like it to go to another enthusiast. Although he hasn't quite said 'yes' yet. Wonder if this is a deal that'll come off. We'll have to wait an see.

It just has to be an outside lock E-type given that description. That or a Lotus Cortina (or was it a Cortina Lotus?) The Interceptor wasn't launched until 1966.

Missed the *early* bit! How MUST that be an E-Type? For all you E-Type droolers there are other cars that are icons of the period ...

rolleyes

Edit: certainly don't think whoever owns would be willing to give it away for a fraction of its value *as they want another enthusiast to own it*

Unless they're bonkers of course.

Probably be one now
