Hi

Just parted company with my lovely 1982 Range Rover Classic. Decided that it would be good to replace it with something that will appeal more to Mrs Clapham and the little Claphamettes. A 4 door convertible seems to be getting people fired up.

On the basis that I'm treating Mrs C's suggestion of a Beetle Karman with the contempt it deserves, I've come up with a shortlist:

Mercedes W124 E Class E320 Cab
Mondial QV
Porsche 911 Targa/Cab (prob 1980s vintage)

Budget around £15k.

Any options I'm missing and anyone with good/bad experience of these?

Will your budget get you a sorted Mondial? You'll spend a lot more on servicing that you ever did with the Rangie I'd bet.

Has it got to be 80s(ish?)

What about an Interceptor? Heavy on fuel but not that much more than the RR shirley? Edit: sorry, conv outside the budget.

If you consider a 911 to be a 'four seater', then you're obviously not averse to 2+2s, so:

R107
XJS-C
Scimitar GTC
Stag

Not sure that the XJS-C had rear seats and the ones in the R107/R129 are just too small to accommodate a child seat & a booster seat.

As for Stags & Scimitars, not for me!

ref the Mondial, quite possibly not - it would certainly need to be quite carefully bought but then I have set aside the whole winter for the grail

I have a Mercedes 500 SEC, Caterham Crossflow, and BWM E36 coupe all inside the 15k budget (in aggregate) - oh and parked in London - it can be done smile

£15k will get you a very good QV or a decent 3.2 . . . .it may even get you a leggy 3.4T, plenty are advertised for silly numbers, but very few sell for them smile

As I'm sure you already know, the later the Mongo, the better the rust proofing hehe
