What cars can you think of that are perfect and are best left untouched and unmolested from modification?

A long, long time ago Dad had a black Mk10 Jag and we often debated whether or not it would be improved by the addition of a single gold coachline down it's considerable flanks; we chose not too and then Jag commited the travesity themselves by plonking a thick chrome strip down the sides of the 420G. laugh

Now I know that a MK10 isn't in the same league as these that I'm going to mention, I use it to illustrate the point.

I would struggle to modify an early E Type (I'm talking aesthetically) and chrome wires on an MG don't do it for me either.

A Daytona or Muira - please; just leave as penned.

What about a Citroen SM? or a Ferrari 330CTC?

Or how about a Citroen DS?...

What do you think?

I'd be interested to know which 8 cyl that is in the DS as it certainly isn't a Citroen unit. Can't really think of any French V8s in moderin(ish) cars.

As for modifying itself, I don't have a problem with it but its not for me unless for a specific purpose like racing etc.

I think that works but I think it's down to the low ride height and it looks right because you used to see DS/CX at that height when parked but overall I'm with you on Daytona/E-type.

The E-type definately benefits visually from slightly wider wheels.

The XK120 fhc is pretty good in my eyes.

Pointless discussion really - beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If we all thought, wanted and liked the same there'd be lots of single very frustrated women and just one that was completely shattered.

It could probably be restored back to original. If not then weighed in.

That DS is great, its not like they are THAT rare ,so the occasional modified one is okay.smile

I'm starting to come round to it. Just think of it as a Hotrod not a DS (I like hotrods)

IMO Loewy was a rubbish designer, but a brilliant self-publicist.

OK, I'll admit to not being a DS fan, but those last pictures remind one that for some people death is too good
