I've just got back from a very pleasant two weeks relaxing in Tuscany. I wasn't really expecting too much in the way of metal eye candy but there were one or two surprises.

First off, the most important one, our hire car. Brand new (3000km) Fiat Punto 1.2 Evo.

Once we'd settled in we drove up to Volterra, our nearest town. After a bit of wandering round the back streets we ambled into the town square. Oh.

Italian MG club meeting

All looked very tidy. Then I looked in the far corner of the square - meeting of the Auto Club Volterra...

That was a good days spotting. Had some great discussions with people about my Citroen, the Monte Carlo Rallye Historique and the Mille Miglia.

Then a few days later I was wandering into Volterra again for my morning espresso and Marlboro when I spotted this in the distance. Turned out to be a Lancia, it was simply stunning, looks a bit Aston Martin from the rear I thought.

I turned round another corner and knew something was going on...

I was right.

I turned back into the same square from the MG meeting and met with this:

Maserati Indy

Ferrari 275 (not sure which variant, sure someone will know)

And then this little lot...

Now this was turning into what I call a good day, but then again the next day the Belgians arrived.

We were driving between Volterra and San Gimignano when I spotted something over a hedge at a tasty looking hotel. It looked a little bit high. I span around the next roundabout and pulled into the car park. The Belgians had arrived.

Belgian Tuscan Rally arriving at their start point:

And that was it. Quite a trip.

Wow!You certainly saw a lot more than I did on my trip to the Lake District.
What is the big American thing on the back of the transporter?

Not sure on the big yank-tank, think it was a caddy but could be well wrong. Having done some digging on the others...

The Ferrari is a 275 GTB and used to belong to Clint Eastwood (thanks Ferrari section of PH!)

The Maserati Indy is quite a rare one and made to celebrate their Indy 500 victory.

The browny Lancia is an Aurelia and is probably worth more than £100,000.

What a fantastic few days, we had a great time in San Gimignano 7 years ago but never saw anything like that. I just remember seeing an old woman whizzing around Volterra in a Fiat 500 estate.
But it seems a shame to transport those cars all that way, my parents took their Morgan +8 out for the Mille Miglia this year (with a lot of other Yorkshire Morgan owners) and it sounds like the drive over the mountain passes was every bit as good as the blast round Tuscany.

Oliver.

Good grief! We stayed in Orciatico in September last year. If these events are annual then we only missed them by a couple of weeks! Love Volterra and found a yellow 500 which I think is in a couple of your pictures. I'll try to post some pics.

The classic American appears to be a 1962 Cadillac Coupe de Ville... The Volvo underneath it looks distinctly nervous!

Is this a Fiat 1100 (possibly R)?

Used to own one, but it was what seems like a lifetime ago... Just remember the suicide doors.

I think it is a Fiat 1100TV which is the 'sporty' version of the 1100/103. Could be wrong though.

I love the Lancia Aurelia, probably the most beautiful car in my eyes. I remember seeing my first one at the age of 10 or 11 in the mid sixties in Minehead of all places.

The yellow Fiat 124 Sport is identical to the one I owned in the early eighties.

I want to go on your next holiday with you!
