Stolen 'Blue' V5C "Log books"
Discussion
there has been some discussion about this on other PH threads but I knew nothing about it so I thought I'd post it as others might not know
(see scan below of leaflet that arrived with my new 'Red' V5C "lob book")
the 'Blue' is being replaced with the 'Red' because:-
'following the theft of a number of blank blue V5Cs. The aim is to reduce the risks to motorists of buying a stolen or cloned vehicle.'
'For tips and advice go to www.direct.gov.uk/buyerbeware '
' . . . there is no need to contact us. We will issue a new red V5C for all vehicles by November 2012'

Hi Nigel
It does make you wonder why it's going to take nearly a year to replace them, and it's only when they receive the new one that they become aware of a potential problem with the blue ones.
Why don't they put this information in with the road fund licence renewal to make more people aware?
What colour will they be next when someone nicks some of the new red ones?

Hi,
good idea Tony I'd have thought they would do
if not why not let them know - if you don't want to then I will and claime the idea and any reward as my own
I did leave a comment on the web page about it because it doesn't meantion the stolen log books so not making people aware of this problem so they can look out for it

Go ahead, any reward is yours.
Good ideas and logic don't seem to reach gov departments!
There must be a way of getting the info to the general public, if you are not currently a car owner then you'll not get to hear about it at all.
A mention on the homepage of the classifieds on every car sales website would be a start, including this one!
A thread in General Gassing could help aswell. Get e-mailing!

I think they're a bit hesitant, for some reason, about advertising that the log books went missing, in possibly 2008, I'd forgotten that
all this sub-contracting of waste and document disposal and not employing regular staff does seem to lead to mistakes and missing items
didn't a load of blank passports go a while back too
there have been threads on PH a while back about this but I've not seen them so I posted here so that the vast legion of my freinds and followers
here know

Having read here what the DVLA cost a year to run, you'd have thought they could afford a cupboard with a lock!

DVLA replacement of Blue V5C with RED V5C documents is running months late.
I too had seen the notice at the beginning of this thread from the DVLA saying they would "issue a new V5C for all vehicles by November 2012" and so when going for my MOT recently I started searching for my new RED log book but could only find my old blue one.
Well after wasting lots of my time I phoned the DVLA to report that my replacement had not arrived (and I did not want to pay £25 for a replacement of a "lost" one) and after taking my details the kind lady said "no yours has not been sent - we can send it for you now if you like". Well relief I had not lost it but what a waste of my time looking for it as I believed the spiel from DVLA about getting it all done by last November. So don't panic DVLA systems still not working properly as usual. Oh yes she could offer no reason as to why it had not been sent and she knew all about them saying it would be done by last November so I guess I am one of thousands who have phoned to ask already.
