Hi all, I'm looking to replace the tyres on my S1 E - 185/15 - I'm thinking Dunlop SP Sport as a good compromise between cost/performance (road use only)?

My question is - can anyone recommend a good supplier, or any other brands of tyre that may be a good bet?

Regards,

Dom

Hi Dom, how the hell are you?

The XJ6 was used to develop the SP Sport tyre in the late sixties, and it was a phenomenal success. I still consider it to be one of the best tyres available, particularly in the wet. I would go for these.

How's the E running?

I had the crossply Blockleys on my C & D type, and met Julian Majoub at the Festival and following our chat fitted his new 185/15 radials which I believe (probably wrong) are the only V rated tyres available at the moment. Love the handling, wet and dry, but they do sing a little bit until the wind noise takes over at 40mph. Much cheaper than Dunlops too. Several friends who race also swear by Vredesteins too. Just a couple of alternatives. I haven't used Dunlops for years due to the poor wear rate. My Michelins lasted twice as long but they have really increased their prices now.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies, really useful info but shows how opinions can vary! Wear rate isn't an issue really, approx 3k per year miles, I'll check out some prices and go with one of your recommendations. I had Dunlops on a Marcos 3L many years ago with good results, FYI.

James, good to hear from you, the E is running like clockwork, as you should know after your help last year!

Thanks all,

Dom
