Not really classic related but reading through that other thread especially at the end, I visit the Geneva motor show each year with my father and it really is difficult to find rubbish nowadays.
I mean in my day you had all sorts of bad cars around, skoda, moskvich, lada, lets be honest it was bad
we really struggle to find something thats at worst "ok" even the dacia duster is it (renault)gets good reviews on 5th gear and they are all over France now.
So to start the ball rolling I will say the Tata range of cars (although that was 3 years ago)

Citroen Bilingo vans I used to have to drive, they are the only thing to come near that paragon of s
teness that was a C15 van for utter crappyness. Crap seats, controls that broke your body by being in totally the wrong place, crap chassis that meant it was often out of control at low speeds etc etc etc
The only good thing it's possible to think of about them was the reasonable mpg.

On the contrary, I think there are a lot of crap cars available. The difference is that in 2012 they are all safe, reliable, full of gimmicks and fit and finish are impeccable on most. But boring, ugly, bland, character-less and sterile still covers a huge amount of them! The entire current Vauxhall range is pretty poor to me. I did a job near a dealership and had a nose around the showroom, it very nearly upset me.

I'd come to the conclusion that pug ugly was just where it was at for car design these days.
Starting with the Bangled (or Bungled) 7 series, the fish faced Audi's (they went for minimalist style to sticking a big ugly face on them overnight). And how any woman can drive a 6 series I don't know?
Does my bum look big in this?
Even a London bus doesn't have an a**e that big love.
Or perhaps that is the point, compared with one, no ones backside look large.

Not a new car I know but took a Smart Roadster in swap at work,didnt expect to love it but borrowed it for the weekend.....hatefull,truly,truly hatefull, horrible engine,awfull awfull gearbox,butt ugly and didnt even handle well, the only car I've driven that I cant find anything good about!
Any thing German built after the 90's are my worst offenders overrated quality and you pay through the nose in every aspect.. Especially anything VAG related.
The older one's are very different beasts especially the Mercs.

Nagsheadwarrior, know what you mean about the Smart Roadster. My neighbour has had 3 and I drove one. Should have been a corker, looked cool, RWD, light, but that gearbox... He let me loose in it, and what a disappointment! The gearbox had such a big time delay from moving the stick to it actually changing gear, that it broke the intimacy and enjoyment. What a shame, and what a monumental cock-up
We had a Perodua Nippa GX for a bit. What a hilarious crap thing! Nothing worked perfectly, everything worked a bit. Heater would only demist the drivers side of the screen, putting it through the face vents and it would only blow cold. You could adjust the heat, the direction and recirculate by moving your feet about under the dash, the clutch squeaked when it was used, and was slipping badly after only 30,000 miles. Gearbox had a nasty change, it didn't enjoy starting in the cold, everything was attached with about a tenth of the amount of screws that Volvo would have used! Doors were really flimsy, and dad once crashed it (at about 2mph) into the side of our Subaru. Subaru got a small dent in the door, the entire front bumper of the Nippa split horizontally and fell off (AND we'd just sold both cars!).

For the last 2 years Lady S has been running a Polo TDI.
3 cylinder 1400cc turbo diesel. Goes plenty quick enough for her, amazing fuel economy and has never let her down plus cheap insurance and £35 road tax.
Yes its bland and not my cup of tea but it does what it says on the tin and keeps her happy.
