Ford Zodiac MkII

I've always been into vintage brit motorcycles, but of late I've been checking out classic cars - the one I've had the longest lust for is the mkII Zodiac - been on line checking a few out...

Anyone owned one? Any particular model faults to watch out for??

Go for it , but Definately Consider a Zephre .

My late dad bought one new I'n I think 1960. It was a nice dark blue , with i beleive a light blue interior .
At that time he was a rep and was racking up a big mileage . I remember him saying that it was quite quick , but that he used to keep some bags of sand I'n the boot as it was Very tail happy .
He also had some aircraft type seat harness belts fitted after witnessing a very bad accident on the A127 I'n which a young model had been thrown through the windscreen and terribly facially injured.

Not sure what year he moved it on, but his next car was a Vauxhall VX series, ( think he had 2 ? ) but pretty sure he preferred the Ford.

I have some photos of mum and dad in Scotland in 1960 , which I will copy and try to post on here .

I had a 1960 'lowline' Zephyr 6 (my third car) back in '69. Not even 10 years old then rust had already taken a hold - bottoms of rear wings, doors etc had been 'glass filled (done quite well though) - a nice car to drive standard steering wheel and cross ply tyres steering effort wasn't to high. Mine had the overdrive option, whilst not working the freewheel feature did - this allowed clutchless gearchanges and a smooth drive. It also came with a six branch exhaust manifold - don't remember if it helped performance or not, I sounded nicer though. I'm sure the owners club is very active and some spares will be available.

Thanks for the replies - my Father had 2 MkIV Zephyr's and I clearly remember the rust problems with those (and them being clapped out with 70k on the clock!) - I had been talking to my neighbour who had Zodiacs in the '50's; just liked the look of them really...


I just wondered if the spares situation for these types of cars had matched the classic motorcycle scene - pretty much anything can be bought now, new parts are made for so many of them...




Indeed, i'd like to drive a couple - see what they are like; there's a rental place on-line that has one; might have a day's worth!

My dad owned one in the 1960's and loved it.

They had a competition history and there should be tuning parts available if you wanted to go in that direction.

The racing driver and author Tony Dron used to campaign one and said it was one of his all time favorite cars.
