Classic Insurance & MoT

Not sure where to post this but can anyone suggest the best place to go for
1) a years clasic insurance for a slightly modded '72 mini
2) a days cover to take the car for an Mot
3) anyone who might have a trailer to cart it for the MoT and therefore save the 1 day cover note. Local to Darlington/Scotch Corner.

I found adrian flux to be great for my mini, 21 yo, 8 points, 1 crash, modded car for just over 400!

There are still some insurance policies that allow you to drive someone elses car legally even if that car has no insurance on it, maybe you could get someone with one of these policies to drive it for you? That's what I would do.

This sort of situation crops up so many times for classic owners, I presume its got no road tax either?.What if something happens on the way to the MOT ? no tax,the cops find a fault with the car,the insurance wont pay out.The only safe and fully legal way is to have it trailered to the MOT station and when it passes,tax & insure it and drive it home.

Ripon Farm services hire trailers, might be worth getting in touch a few of the guys are in to Classic Rallying etc so would understand your situation.

Having been through something similar recently with a much older car (1932) I found the following:

You can get off road insurance that will be converted to full insurance once MOT is passed.

It is legal to drive to and from a BOOKED MOT appointment without Tax, but you must have insurance, and a cover note can be issued, mine was FOC from my insurance company. This is possible as you clearly can not tax without an MOT.

Been quoted £139 for a full year and as I want to put it on the road then that seems the easiest way forward....unless its a total MoT fail of course

Hi The insurance company that I use is carole nash they cover classic cars & bikes,
also a policy that just covers it while in storage so it doesn't need to be MOT'd

The place that I take my cars to for MOT is 400 yrds away, by foot, but 600 yrds by road.

They have traders insurance, and will pick up and drop off for free.

Vehicles being taken to or from a previously booked MOT are exempt from the requirement for road tax or a current MOT. Insurers are prevented in law from refusing to pay out to third parties based on the condition of the insured vehicle (section 148 of the Road Traffic Act applies), but they can subsequently recover their costs from the insured party.
