Heh, I know what you mean but the Citroen Works cars used Slotties for rallying in the East African Safari and Rallye de Maroc so they have form!

The front ones look fine. The rear ones however are awful :P

Is this for your rallying though?. If so, cheapest works better, from experience smile

Gentlemen, you are all kind and noble lions and I thank each and every one of you for your time. This has certainly helped me make my decision.

Neither, I'll stick with the black steelies. smile

I really did think they would work aesthetically. Oh well, £1000 saved, hooray!

I regularly see a DS hammering along the M27 at rush hour, I reckon the bloke might use it daily.

There I am plodding along in my 1983 BMW when he goes flying past in his DS.

Coolect bloke on the M27 I reckon.

A guy from the DS club does about 15000 miles a year in his. I've seen the car and mechanically it loves him for it. It lives on his drive, in Manchester, and is used come rain or shine.

If only the bodywork and chassis was more rust resistant I'd consider doing the same, especially if I could find a well sorted 2.3i RHD semi auto - not much change from 25-30k for one now though.

THFT...had imagined the DS being turned into some chav-like bling-mobile. One interesting point is that many historic guys 'in the know' run with steels for a good reason; that being if an alloy is heavily dinged it's normally FUBAR'd. When on long distance runs a steel can have its' tyre removed, the 'ding' beaten out of the rim, and tyre re-fitted. You can't do this with an alloy...and it doesn't matter how much unsprung weight is saved with an alloy...if you haven't got four good wheels in the first place the car's not going anywhere.

Ben, do you run with 1no spare wheel? Have seen quite a few chaps running with a couple of cans of tyre weld on some events; saving much weight and space.

I genuinely thought that the Slotties would look ok. As mentioned above the 70's Works cars used them or a derivative.

I agree with the resilience of the steel rims though, one can just hammer them out.

The only issue I have is that I have to run inner tubes all round as the DS steel wheels are riveted and can't take a tubeless tyre. This makes tyres very expensive and you also can't use the tyre weld foam in a can stuff.

When rallying I always have 2 spares. One fits neatly under the front of the bonnet as the car is technically mid engined (front mid I think they say). At present I have two sets of four - 4 x winter tyres, 4 x summer tyres.
