classic road tax reminder

does anyone know if the dvla send out reminders for cars on pre 1972 classic road tax ( i.e free ) ,only my car is in the paintshop and i cant remember if the tax ran out march 31st or the end of april and i dont want to risk an eighty quid fine

Yes they do. However if they don't, or it gets lost in the post, it's still your responsibility.

Yes, mine's due at the end of this month and it arrived on Wednesday.

looks like the bloke i bought the car from hasnt sent the v5 off to swansea so i,m off to the post office ! thanks for the replies gentlemen !

If they haven't then you should send off your 'new keepers supplement' (I presume you are using this an a V10 to tax the car?) to get a V5C in your name. The other option is to pay. I assume there is some (free, fairly easy and quick) way of finding out if you are the registered keeper of a car or not.

Oh and it's pre '73 cars which are 'nil' tax, not pre '72.
