Just a general tidy-up really. Don't want to lose all the patina but the list of jobs at the moment is:

• Strip down + overhaul the carbs
• Oils, filters, Distributor cap, plugs and HT leads
• New front dampers and polybushes all round
• Recon steering box
• Steam clean underside, waxoyl
• New roof panel to replace the one with the hideous 80's pop-up sunroof
• New headlining
• New lower front valance
• Fit period road tyres
• Deal with light corrosion in rear doors & door shuts
• Replace corroded front quarter lights
• Enjoy!

Nice early example, don't see many of those at all.
My father has an '89 one, think you recommended a fettler to us a while ago. However, if you need another then I have found a very good RR guy in Ripley Surrey.

Way to go! My best RR was the CSK.
Another good job is to change the drop gears in the transfer box to give higher gearing and fit the later multi rate springs for better handling and ride.

Great car, when I was younger we had an A reg (A584RTT) Rangie to pull a boat. Forgot it was on the back and we are talking about a 2 ton Sail Boat!

Very capable cars in both ability and expensive repairs - but worth it

That looks fantastic.

Given the prices 2drs are fetching now I wonder when it will become almost financially viable to 're-extend' some of those bobtail jobs that crop up on fleabay. Is it that hard a job other than replacing chassis and the rear panels (sounds so simple, might be able to do it in a weekend with a socket set).

I owned that one a few years ago. I bought it from a Range Rover collector who had, unbelievably, rescued it from being broken for spares. It had obviously had a lot of money thrown at it (recon engine, transmission, lots of new steering and suspension stuff) and was structurally as good as they get, but with a rather amateurish respray. The only problem I found was that the combination of 3.5 carb engine and 3-speed Torqueflite autobox made it pathetically slow and not all that suitable for towing heavy trailers, so I sold it on to someone who was planning to restore it to concours condition. Doesn't look as though he got beyond replacing the Vogue alloys with steel Rostyles.

I saw it turn up again on Ebay and wondered how much it would fetch this time round (I paid a grand for it). If it is still as solid as when I had it, I reckon that you got a bargain, I was expecting it to fetch more.

Interesting - looking at your profile, I bought it from the guy you sold it to. It is still in good condition but still needs work. And, yes, it is as slow as old horses!

I saw one this morning. I hate modern Range Rovers more than I hate Nazis, but the old ones do have a certain something (old Rangies, that is, not old Nazis).
