If I bought say a 1967 track prepared MGB ot TR4A for trackday use only,
could it at some time in the future be used in one of the (many) race series for "Pre- '66" cars, if it were to the spec that an MGB or TR4A was, prior to the end of 1965?
Or would I have to start with a MGB or TR4A actually manufactured in 1965?

Thanks, it would help more if I were a lawyer and understood it confusedbiggrin

but I have extracted from it: "3.1 A car will be dated by the specification of that car and not necessarily by the date of build.".

I wonder if that applies to those cars in my OP?

In most club racing its not that strict, for example with the HSCC and HRDC you can get cars in a pre-66 event with an E registration on, however I believe the FIA events may be a bit more strict, all as far as I know, nothing certain.

A 67 MGB is not the same as a pre 66 one. It has a different bodyshell, different transmission tunnel, different gearbox, different axle, different block, different dash and different doors (although some push button cars were produced in 65). It has been known for people to cut the key parts out of an early shell and graft them into a later one. So go pull handle doors and you've no problem - that's why Mk1s are so bloody expensive even as basket cases.

There are a few 66 cars out there but by and large they can be shown to have been built in 65 but not registered til 66. Same applies to TVRs etc

I can't speak for TRs but if you're thinking of trying to get eligibility for a later car I'd recommend a chat with Jim Lowry or John Hopkinson first as one of them will probably inspect the car for FIA papers.

Not sure the TR4a is pre-65. The live axle 4's can be run in fia events - not heard of the IRS 4a having papers.

Quite right, they are not pre-'65; they started making them at the start of '65 and made about 13000 that year, my thread title is "pre-'66" smile.

The TR4A's were raced but I only know of their successful outing in the '66 Sebring 12 hour race.
