77 MGB electrical help

Evening

Having sourced a new battery for my GT I had a play with the controls.

All seems fine except the first time I put the main beam on only the front indicators illuminated, I walked back to the drivers door but noticed that they had turned off and the main beam had had come on.
Strange, any idea why?

I also refitted the gear knob but managed to remove the OD switch before looking at the wiring orientation.
Does anybody know which way round the wires go?

And finally, my fuel pump doesn't run. I have stripped, rebuilt and tested it in the workshop and it beats away. But only in the car nothing.
I haven't poked around with my multi meter yet, but I read about an inertia switch.

Any suggestions as to what to try?

IIRC they share the same earth in amongst the bullet connectors under the slam panel, take em appart and clean the males with some emery paper and the femails with the same but rolled up gritty side out, if it's really bad i have in the past used somme small files to do the femails, or replace them?

all wires and connections need to be clean, secure and protected, as said check earths but also rocker switches and column switch too

As regards the overdrive, it doesn't make any difference which wire goes where, it's just a very simple switch and doesn't care about polarity.

luckily, mgb electrical systems are the easiest to repair. you may like to buy the following book. it'll give you much help.
