Anyone on here remember FordSports Day ?
It's 40 years ago this w end that 16 brand spanking new black Capri 3000 Es were thrashed around Brands by 32 Top Celebrity drivers Inc Niki Lauda / Bill Stone, Graham Hill , Emerson Fittipaldi, Bernie Ecclestone, Frank Gardner, Colin Chapman, Francois Cevert , Jerry Birrel , Dave Brodie , G F. Thomas, Hans Beaumhardt ( Custom Car Magazine Editor ) Jeremy Walton , Simon Taylor , Malcolm Gartlan , Ray Allan etc etc .
FordSports Days were sponsored by Wiggins Teape ( who ran a Capri Racer in 72/73 ) .
I believe ime correct in saying that the first FordSports Day was held at Brands in 1970 and which was a 3 Litre Capri Race with 20 Capris taking part.
This was won by the Late Great Piers Corage , who so sadly lost his life horrifically in Holland only a few weeks later .
For 1971 the Escort Mexico was raced , for 72 the Capri 3 Litre returned and for 73 it was the Ford Granadas turn. I think 73 was the last FordSports Day race. Why FordSports Days were stopped I don't know, but what a shame they aren't still held. Great publicity for Ford.
