Have bn told about a 72 Mk1 Escort seen in daily use in NYC. Wasnt aware that they were sold there.

Anyone know different?? What UK 60s/70s Fords were sold in US and Canada?? I know about Mercury-Capri Mk1s and that some Mk2 Cortinas were available but only have vague details.

Any info on models and spec wd be much appreciated,
Thx.

Mk1 Escorts weren't type approved for use on the road in the USA at the time they were new. I know of quite a few out there though (California based Lotus restoration guru Dave Bean owned a nice RS1600 BDA version back in the mid 1980's) and these days I believe there are ways and means of making arrangements for driving them on the road, although this maybe on a state by state basis.

Thanks, car is a standard issue 4-door with left-hand drive. Tappety crossflow and 4-speed box. Faded paint but solid enough. Not 6-clock dash.
Owner also has a Canadian 69 Mk2 Cortina estate (or "wagon""!!!) "back home" which requires work and not been out since 1982/3. Were these made in Canada??

That link says Cortinas were made in Dagenham for export.

Thanks Dave, just got round to looking on here, all info gratefully recd.
Its got me thinking about what 60s, 70s, 80s UK-model Fords were available elsewhere. Have a copy of a pic somewhere of a 105E Anglia being used by the police in a US desert. (Why such a bizarre situation came about I dont know!!!). Will try to find out more.
New thread for 60s, 70s, 80s Ford anoraks?? Am interested.
