Selling a classic during its restoration

After 10 years of happy motoring I realised my classic needed a serious amount of money spent on it to rectify the dreaded tin worm. After finding a restorer I was happy with, the work began with the agreement that it was to be done properly with original parts where possible etc.

The car has had the necessary new panels fitted and is about to be fully resprayed followed by the interior etc being put back. The problem is that I have run out of money and will have to unfortunately sell the car when finished. Rather than find the money to finish the project and have to wait a few months till its done before selling, does anyone have experience of selling a car midway through restoration?

I don't think its really going to work, but thought I'd ask anyway!

Happens all the time. I've recently bought a part restored car, the previous owner had died and his family put it up for sale. A friend of mine once bought a part restored Healey and sold it again, in exactly the same state, about six years later.

Your best bet is probably to speak to the restorer and ask them to broker the sale (they must have contacts). Otherwise you'll have to be very clear with interested parties that the car is in bits at a restorer but they're buying from you.
