Lancer 2000 Turbo in International Classic Event

A UK owner of a totally restored Lancer 2000 Turbo (early 80's) drove down to Austria last week to take part in the Silvretta Classic Rally. I drove down from Munich to meet up and follow the event for a couple of days.
These cars are very rare now and especially in Europe are rising in value. One featured a while ago on PH that was for sale in the UK at 8k and subject to much debate was bought by a German MMC dealer, there have been other standards cars for sale in Germany for as much as 19k Euro.
Here are some pictures from the event and my journey home.

It looks to be a superb one and photographed in a beautiful scene too, thanks for posting it.
I can see how they could be worth that money. They are so rare now they must be close to unobtainable in top condition so a less good car will need to be restored which will cost a lot of money.

8K - no way, that's a bargain. Just thinking how much my mate spent on a MK1 at the Escort Agency, and it's no Lancer!!
Just to clarify neither car here would be sold for 8k, I was referring to one being sold in the UK that was discussed on PH and ended up going to Germany even though it was RHD. The blue car pictured here has been subject to a rebuild that 8k would not even scratch the surface off and the white car (mine)would easily fetch more than 8k, as I said in the first post one similar went for 19k Euro recently in Germany. One reason they have made good prices in Germany is that they have reached 30 years old and are now able to acquire historic status assuming they are in good near standard condition.
My brother graduated to one of these from a 131sport. The performance difference at the time was huge. No LSD made it interesting and the turbo lag too. We pulled the head off one day and found some big cracks in the valve areas. It still ran OK tho'

The Lancer Turbo was very quick for the time and one of the fastest four door cars, but The DeTomaso Deauville was the fastest four door then - it was much faster than the Lancer and would be considered a fast car even now. The XJ12 was also faster than the Lancer Turbo. nice example of a v rare car now, and nice photos - looks like a fun trip!
The Lancer 2000 was quite a leap forward when it came out, as seen by its success in the road saloon/production based saloon racing series where it arrived and was quicker than all the previous quick stuff like Capri V6, Rover V8 etc.
The Lancer 2000 started an impressive run for Mitsi - then followed Starion 2000 then Gallant Turbo 4wd then Lancer Evo's which all did well in motorsport.
