Help needed with MGB V8 conversion running problem
Discussion
Hi all, Ive got a MGB V8 conversion which is running on a eldelbrock carb. It has however a massive flat spot upon acceleration almost cutting out then picking up again, suggestion is that it is a a mixture / carb issue. Are there any engine tuners Coventry area who would be willing to come and have a look, cars is not really able to be driven. Will obviously pay for your time etc......cheers mick 07427641774
when I had one with a Offy and Holly I had a flat spot in the reve range that a local American 'expert' said was one bank shuting down between a certain rev range but dispite having the car for a week he couldn't find the reason
I got recommended to go a see an older chap that specialised in SUs, he looked at it for a while whilst it was running then pulled off a (vacuum) pipe and blocked it with a screwdriver and then it revved properly, I shorten and blocked the pipe and all was fine from then on
so check all the plumbing - this is assumiming it is the carb or manifold causing the problem you need to check this is the case and that the problem doesn't originate from elsewhere
be careful about who you chose to look at the car
unless its pinking or knocking you could probably drive it to get it repaired
I'd suggest asking on the American and custom car forums or the various MGB V8 conversion registers or if you still have the paperwork and they were supplied by Clive Wheatly(?) or the other chap you could contact them to make sure you have the right components together

The Edelbrock is an easy carb to tune and you can get a tuning kit from Real Steel. Edelbrock themselves have any amount of info on their website here: http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new/misc/tech_...
However, there is one problem that can happen easily which cannot be corrected and that is when the 2 slow running screws at the bottom of the carb are over adjusted and break through the carb wall, do that and its a new carb.
Best of luck.
