Silver Shadow 1 and Bentley T1.
Discussion
My wife has a 93 Mercedes SL, to be honest, despite their reputation I'm a little disappointed with it.
She'd would like a 4 seat car and I've a preference for something older that I can fix at home, the Shadow 1 and Bentley T1 are not complex cars by any standard.
She drives about 2 miles a day to work (should walk really!) and supermarket/shopping trips, I suppose about 5k a year. I'm not really worried about MPG.
I note there is good supply of used spares and factory manuals on the web.
A nice early car with the all wood dash takes my fancy.
What does the old banger collective think?

If no concerns for fuel consumption; go for it. Here's one that looks like an interesting Bentley T1 http://pistonheads.com/sales/4040567.htm with interesting history...or is this just Irish Blarney?
Keep car forever/until body falls apart, strip and build a 'Bentley Special'...have some huge fun and when ready sell for £60-70K ala this http://pistonheads.com/sales/3510931.htm
All the spare parts can be sold to part fund the 'Special'.

sorry but that Mk VI Bentley is all wrong. Its kind of caught between the 2 era's of true prewar vintage dimensions and a post was Cobra interior. the proportions just don't work. Just my tuppence worth.Keep car forever/until body falls apart, strip and build a 'Bentley Special'...have some huge fun and when ready sell for £60-70K ala this http://pistonheads.com/sales/3510931.htm

A dark green or navy blue T1 with the Chippendale dash would be an awesome thing. When you see one of these next to a Shadow II/T2 you realise how bloated and cluttered they became.
A two tone Shadow II looks like a vagazzle compared to the timeless purity of Blatchley's original design.

you're absolutely right + if that was my project it would be in a different colour + the cycle wings would be fitted correctly + a few other bits. however, if one was wanting to purchase a T1 to trundle around in, the T1 provides a perfect base for a Bentley Special. since the OP's first Q? i've managed to find a number of RR/Bentley T1's for sale starting at only £6k, and that's a lot of car for the money with much fun factor for the price. in fact, with reduced interior + replace body with a leightweight body of aluminium and doped canvas or leather one might even get 20mpg!these type of specials do demand strong money and have seen a big interest from purchasers wanting something different e.g. Riley, Austin, Jaguar type specials. some of the rarer one's like the Jaguar engined Dunsmore Specials are very difficult to find tese days.

Yes, they are a lovely thing. I prefer the Coupes, both James Young and the slightly prettier MPW.A two tone Shadow II looks like a vagazzle compared to the timeless purity of Blatchley's original design.
However, I save most of my lust for a Camargue. They're just RR porn.

The main problem with the car is that the engine hasn't been moved back in order to get the radiator in line with the front wheel centres. This is almost a given when producing a Mk6 special. The T1 would be a very difficult car to make into a special and is not really suited to the job.

I know you said you're not worried by mpg but an Autocar test on the Shadow II managed an average of just over 10mpg and the acceleration was about 11 seconds to 60.
1. If you are heavy footed in a car like that, as Autocar would be, you are going to see some terrible mpg figures. I can assure you that if you have a well maintained Shadow and just waft around the way God intended, your consumption is going to be more like 20-22.2. 11 seconds to 60? Who cares? That is really not the point.

er... I thought the Shadow/T1 was monocoque construction, unlike the MKVI which has a separate chassis. Although many MKVI were standard steel, it only referes to the removable body and many coachbuilt examples exist. The chassis makes it easier to make these Hot Rods, although the IFS gives the game away IMHO.davepen said:

They can still look okay though. Here's one I made earlier.

has there been a replica blower bentley?
Depends which judge you believe
For example, pre war chassis and post war engine...

Some have use a B8 engine and fake blower.
