Your Greatest Car of the 1940s?

Being sad, my work colleague and I often talk about all manner of cars. We decided to write out a favourites list of a car for each decade.

I struggled a bit on the '60s just through sheer quality of machinery where IMO it was a bit harder to find one stand-out car - there are loads I adore.

However, I *really* struggled for the '40s. A time of immense change, birth and rebirth and despite the paucity compared to some decades there are some real stand-out cars. I eventually settled on a Cisitalia 202 but I love the Willys Jeep, the Ferrari 166...

Probably the Alfa 6C

Being a bit of a fan of older American tin, I love the styling of late forties' Cadillacs. If customs are allowed, a 49 Mercury coupe.

The two big standard-setters at the 1948 Motor Show were the Jaguar XK120 and the Morris Minor, Totally different and both all-time greats in their own ways.

I like the choice of the Willys Jeep. The first 5 years of the decade were spent in war, and the Jeep was a stroke of genius as a design. The Land Rover merely enhanced the idea, good as it was.

1948/1948 Cadillac Sedanette - '48 as it was the last of the 'flatheads' and '49 as it was the first of the OHV's.
Oh, and yes the R type Bentley Continental as, arguably it was a copy of these.

That is beautiful but how about the Lincolns from the 1940`s?.....they were nice....especially the V12`s....or were they all V12`s from this era?

Definitely a 1949 Club Coupe. Cadillac lost their way after this and only found it again with the stunning 1959 Series 62 and Deville Coupes - although the 1960 is a tad nicer.

This is gonna sound reeaaallly lame. But the 2CV is probably one of the most important cars of the 40's.

I started thinking of purely British cars, and I suppose (my Dad had one) the Ford V8 Pilot comes to mind.
