On the M40 northbound at the M25 interchange this morning.

Small 1960s ish 2 door convertible.

From the back it looked a lot like an MGB, but sufficiently different to catch my attention. From the side it looked like a Triumph Spitfire. The front appeared to have a wide chrome grill, possibly a bit like an early Spifire.

Overall it looked like it was based on the Spitfire but heavily modified.

Any suggestions?

Here's a picture of my old Reliant Sabre 4, my first ever rebuild project when I was 18 years old.

All convertibles were 4 pot 1700cc and all coupes were 6 pot 2600cc. The exception was two 6 pot convertibles were produced, identifiable by round rear wheel arches and small wheel arch extensions front and rear.
DAB 941B where are you now?

Ford Consul/Ford Zephyr engines respectively. The car was evolved from an idea by the Israeli arm of reliant known as Sabra. who wanted to sell them in the US. Kit-car based idea, with chassis by Debonair and body by ashley.

For some reason they were rallied quite a bit in 6-cyl form, presumably for publicity.

There is a Reliant Sabre and Scimitar Owners Club event on at Curborough this weekend, so I think people will see a few more of these around the midlands...
