Barn find BMW e9 Coupe.

I've recently purchased a 1972 BMW which has been stored in a shed since 1992. The car had been stripped ready for restoration and is in very good structural order. It has the same body work as the famous 'Art Cars' as per this months Classic and Sportscar mag and the reg is JYN78K . If anyone knows anything about the car's past, I would love to know! Looks like its a late 3.0 CS ( Carb ) or a very early built 3. 0 CSI, but my money is on the 3.0 CS.
From the photos it would apear that someone was building a replica of the ETC 1974 season CSL race cars.

Some sort of replica but the front and rear arches just don't look quite right. Almost as if one set is from '74 and the other from '75 or even Gp5.

Would love to know more about the car as I've always had a soft spot for them ever since hearing of Dad missing out on buying a Batmobile in the '80's for peanuts! Allegedly he was on the way to see Gerry Tyack with the bankers draft in his pocket only to see the new owner driving away from the forecourt.

Dear Robert, If you could let me have the VIN (stamped in the top edge of the metal bulkhead between the engine bay and the space for the heater/ windscreen motors on the right hand side in front of the driving position), then I can probably give you some detalis from the documents which I keep for the BMW Car Club UK "CS Register". It is interesting that it is right hand drive - does it have INAT carburettors or D-Jetronic (or it may have been modified with Webers). The wheel arches are extreme - look like Group 5 with the large outlets (front) and inlets (rear) for cooling air. If they are made from fibreglass then they may have been made in the UK by Chris Randal. Certainly an exciting find and it will be nice to fill in the blanks in its history. E-mail me on [e-mail]. Thanks for your input and I will try and upload some better pictures which may help identify the alloy bodywork more easily.

Don't underestimate corrosion on these cars - on the surface mine looked reasonable...its needing alot of work, but will be something special once finished.

Wow! My car is thankfully virtually rust free, including something called the riffle buts? All the body kit is made in hand beaten aluminium and the car came with an alluminium bonnet but the boot is steel. I'll try and load some more photos as soon as I can which may show more!

The so called Rifle Butt is the Bulkhead closing panel, situated to the right of the drivers foot. These cars rot very badly in this area. The state of the bukhead can Only be properly assesed with the front wings removed.
