A nice problem to have
Discussion
So I have got a couple of rallies coming up. The first is the HERO Throckmorton Challenge next week in Worcestershire. I'm doing it for Mission Motorsport (look them up, great guys and doing top work www.missionmotorsport.org) and my navigator is an ex serviceman who rather unfortunately got blown up in Afghanistan.
Then in early November I am doing another rally in France/Germany ( http://www.15-50ac.org/1.html) with my normal navigator, PH's johnfm. We did this rally last year and had a blast, great people, great roads, lots of yummy beer in the evenings etc.
So, I'm trying to decide what car to take to France. At the moment I'm registered in the DS but part of me wonders whether to switch to the new little snotter Porsche.
As I see it the pros & cons are:
DS Pros
Comfortable
Great long distance cruiser
Far cooler than the Porsche
Older, more interesting and challenging to drive.
Front wheel drive, full winter tyre set (it could be snowing)
DS Cons
Lacking power for long mountain ascents.
That's it.
Porsche 944 Pros
Will be total fun on the mountain roads (which is most of them
)
Easier to source bits if it goes bang
Safer if I bin it
Much, much faster, lighter and nimbler than the DS
Porsche 944 Cons
Not as comfortable (worn seat foam etc.)
Smaller for packing/kit
Temptation to absolutely muller it
Rear wheel drive plus summer tyres, not great if 4'' of snow on ground
So wise PH classic car blokes, what would you do?

Why have the DS if you don't use it, I'd go with that for both
The Porsche will be getting used for Throckmorton without a doubt, mainly because of the supportive seats. The chap from Mission Motorsports has lost both legs and the bouncy DS front seats/couch wouldn't be good for him.Looks like the DS is going to France again then, happy about that!
