Help me Identify These Spotlights - Where do I mount them?

My dad came back from the Malvern show with a front spot light and front fog light.
From a 60's/70's vintage, im unsure where to mount them on the front bumper.

Does anyone have any photos of such classic lights mounted on minis/similar classic car? Maybe a VW camper or something?

Thinking of mounting them next to each other, on the passenger side of the front bumper.

The classic way to mount a matching spot and a fog light was with the spot on the offside - so the driver looks along the beam - and the fog on the nearside providing a broad spread of light which also illuminates the kerb.

My first car, a 1965 HA Viva had a single fog light, it was mounted on the nearside front bumper.

According to photos in the BMC Works Secrets book, where Minis had 2 lights they were about 1/4 of the way in from each side, I don't think I've ever seen 2 together on one side on anything.

Agree that fog on nearside, spot offside.

So these would be drilled straight through the actual bumper or into the lip which the bumper is mounted onto?

Pretty much every Mini I have seen with extra lights has had them mounted like so.



However, I seem to recall most had four extra lights with spots on the outside and fogs in the centre.

OP, do not fit spots/fogs straight onto a bumber as they'll flex and vibrate causing the lamps light beam to move all over the place. BMC Works Minis were were fitted onto a steel bar to ensure a solid mounting [see book Works Rally Mechanic by Brian Moylan, or, google pics of BMC Works Minis]. Also be careful as to the location and distance apart of any aftermarket spots/fogs; there are MOT rules that cover this type of installation.

The only thing to be aware of is there is a legal minimum/maximum for lights to be fitted from the side or is it the centreline of the car. Also these days I'm not sure if you are supposed to use them seperately from the headlights. I guess the age of your car may have a bearing on this, I once had a car fail its mot because extra lamps were the wrong dimensions re position. Construction and use regs or your friendly mot tester need consulting. The car was 1933 and the complaint was that the flashing indicators which I had put on for safety reasons were mounted wrongly,impossible to comply with the regs------soplved the argument I disconnected them----made it loads safer!!!!!!

Fancied doing something a bit different regarding the positioning however if i have to comply with certain regulations, which il check, looks like il go for the standard position in addition to over riders.

They'l be adorning the front of this by the way.
