BMW E3 2500 for sale at auction.

Mannheim auctions Northampton have an old E3 going through on December 4th, a Fjord blue 2500 UJB444N. It's been entered by Woolaston BMW and to be fair, it looks pretty rotten. Only showing 60 odd thousand miles but it has suffered over the years so may be a spares car or a brave resto. Looks to be a standard cloth trim car so nothing terribly exciting.

. I took another peep at it today. It really does need some work. It appears very similar in many ways to one that sold on fleebay recently for £1100. I can't tell if it's the same one because the reg number was covered in the ad. It appears to need several new panels including wings and bonnet. A nice project for someone handy with a mig welder, but I can't see it worth anything for than £500. In any case, I'm out. (Have I talked it down enough? 
)
My dad had a silver one on 1971. It had the separate large reversing lights next to the number plate. Might be worth looking for a fully sorted one rather than the expense of restoring one.

I have a suspicion that this was owned way back by Bob Buckingham, owner of North Oxford Garage - he had a Fjord blue 2500 on an N plate as recently as 2000-2001 (that's when I last saw him driving it) and the N.O.G number plates tend to support this. But, perhaps it's not the car.
The problem with E3's is that they're still not really worth anything, and nothing like the cost of restoration. Asssuming this one is mechanically okay, I can see £5000 sunk into it with ease. A pioty it's not a 3.3L or a 3.0Si. If nothing else, it's a nice source of parts because the trim and chrome all look to be okay.
If Only these cars had had more articles etc done on them over the years, as they are criminally underrated . The 3.0 SI in particular, the pre 74 examples ( which were softened ) are a fantastic drivers car.

Well, this blue one could be for you. I don't think it's a viable project to restore but what value do you put on all the parts that could be stripped from it? Not just the chrome and trim, but for example a good early cylinder head or a pair of good working INAT Solex carburettors.I have 4 on the go at the moment, 2 x 2500 and 2 3.0 SI , PM me if any interest .
