When it was new, Dad's 1960 Land Rover was bought by the Road Research Laboratory and used to power a hydraulic core borer, before being sold off in the 70's and eventually bought by dad in 1999 (and is still with us today.)
When we replaced the speedo (now at 2090miles) we went through the old Mot's and they show well over 400,000 recorded miles
but that doesn't show the 'mileage' covered when she was stationary powering the PTO Hydraulic equipment...
We reckon the engine has covered well over 500,000miles total (with rebuilds).
Can any one beat that?

You should see the thousands of Lincoln Town Cars that are running around the NY City area... Routine to see 3-4 year old ones with over 300,000 on the clock, and not uncommon to see them with over 500k on them.
Here's one on eBay right now.. An 04 with 330k, but just over 2 years ago it was reported as having 109k on it!

Here's one that sold... 706k on a 2003... Looking at the Carfax report shows it had 300k on it when it was less than 2 years old!

Figuring an average price over the last 9 years of $2.50 a gallon and, say, 18mpg... That car has burned close to $100,000 in fuel!

once again this proves that use is better than cosseted inactivity
but it's not just the engine you need to frequently keep in use to keep things at their best

Well that means it did break 500k at least before it needed an engine. And there's no way the original trans in a stretch lasted that long, even highway miles will kill them by 250k. But these things see commercial use in often very rough conditions, that regular town car saw most of its miles in NY City traffic.
