What terms do you hate to see in car adverts ? I know most of these can be applied to all cars but classics seem to be well blessed.

I'll start the ball rolling :-

"make ideal wedding car " - usually on any white car - how many punters are actually looking for a wedding car and even if they are do they really need to be told ?

"good condition for year" - what exactly does this mean on a 1972 MG Midget ?

"first to see will buy"

Worst for me is when you see a car with a for sale sign in the window and no price! If they can't be bothered to specify a price I can't be bothered to look at it.

Any reference to 'coachwork' on a modern car.

Or 'previously enjoyed'. You mean used.

It's the obvious stuff that is in the photo that annoys me.

"1970 MGB. Red. Convertible. Chrome bumper. 1800. Wire wheels. Tax free, £10,000"

maybe i am just being a bedwetter, but adverts can give so much more with a bit thought.

1) "Needs (insert part name here) replacing - easy fix!": So why don't you just fix it then if it's so easy?

2) "Manufactured in 1975 so qualifies for historic tax now!": Historic car tax doesn't apply to cars post 1 January 1973, no matter how old they are now! rolleyes

3) "Ferrari 308 GTS, FSH, 12months MOT, 12 months tax, Great condition, only £4,999! Don't call!, e-mail Me at: SCAMripoff@Yahoo.net" : Does anyone still fall for these?

4) "Genuine Barn find - wouldn't take much work to get back on the road!": Don't be fooled, it'll need more work than you imagine!

5) "Unfinished project due to lack of time": Really meaning: It's a bloody money pit! - I had no idea it needed this much work doing! - I give up! - I'm out of My depth here! - Some other sucker can waste his money trying to get it back on the road! - Stupid bloody Barn find! - Why didn't I listen to My mates? - Why did I let the idea of owning one rule My head? - Why do I buy these things?"

6) On ebay: "Starting price 99p No reserve - Advertised elsewhere though so may be removed": Really meaning: "I don't want to put bidders off so I'll make it look like they can get a bargain but if the highest bid is only a bargain amount then I'm going to Welsh on the deal! "

7) Cars advertised for 10 times their market value because the owner is convinced that their car is worth that amount regardless of what the market says!

8) Poverty spec, under-powered cars described as being rare and sought after! Technically, yes they are rare, but that's because no one wanted them when they were new and nobody wants them now.

A Motor trader down the road from me would use 'locally owned car' a lot, which he seemed to apply to meaning 'previous owner is on the same landmass'

Genuine low mileage - and when you ask there's no way it can be substantiated.

Price on application.

Full service history - when you get there it consists of two old MOT's and a bill for new plug leads in 1975.

I once went to see a Rover P5 that was described as immaculate. As it was some distance away I asked the vendor very specific questions about the bodywork areas I knew to be problems. All Ok was his reply.

After a 200 mile drive to view the car, I opened the rear door and could see the road through the holes in the corroded inner wheel arch.
