I remeber these. BRM engine though? It's a TC engine with either L1 or L2 cams which were the choice then. You could usually get around 130 on L1 cams. These did have a very nice cam cover with BRM cast into it - probably where most of the cost came into it!

Isnt that a bit like a Ferrari with the engine from an MP4-12C Mclaren?

Still, unusual. i wonder if any were sold/still exist?

There was definately at least one - my father had one in his garage to do some bodywork on back in '68 or '69.It was orangey yellow in colour and as noted above had BRM cast into the cam cover.
When the owner came to pick the car up, he was given a lift in a Daimler Majestic with the reg no. NAN111D - was told it was Colin Chapmans but that may be BS. It also appeared in 'The Italian Job'.
The things you remember...........................but where did I put my car keys?????? Oh well.rolleyes

This one's in the Donington Collection (well it was a year or so ago, when I took the photo).

There's also one for sale in the Classic Mags at the moment I think. If I find a link I'll post it.

why doesn't Lotus still not have his own Classics in the gassing station...

I wrote and asked Garlick about that end last year, he found it a great idea but still its not there...

we could combine all Lotus classic talks in those threads Classics Lotus...

I also like to talk about classic Lotus, so many nice cars they made back then, Lotus disservice it.

So Paul if you reading this please ad a Classics in the Lotus threads....

It wasn't a BRM engine but a twin cam tweaked by Mike Spence garage with BRM approval ISTR. I have seen several - probably more now than in period . Interestingly somebody also did an Elan with the Alfa twin cam, I think to GTA spec.Read about it in Car magazine in late 60's-it was a very quick car indeed...

The BRM Elans were all built by Mike Spence racing. Unfortunately due to the fatal accident in the US test driving the turbine Lotus only around 10 or so were built.

The baby Elan were metallic green with orange bumpers. If you look closely at the BRM badge of the P83 you will see the BRM goes around the badge, the same was the same for the BRM Elans when they left Mike Spence racing.

Alan co founder of Specialised paintwork was one of the team to build the BRM Elans painting all of the examples, additionally one 2+2 was built but not in green.

It was possible to order the engine from Mike Spence racing to put into any Elan, Alan still has some if the hand typed marketing info.
