It's my parents' 50th anniversary in March. When I was a nipper (many many years ago) one of my happiest memories (my brother and sisters lap agree) was a holiday to the New Forest in my dad'sFord Capri MKII.
My brother, my sister and I have made a decision to surprise my mum and dad by taking them away for the weekend for their anniversary to the same place we had holiday nearly 40 years ago. We want to turn up at their house unexpected and in a ford Capri. I was hoping I would be able to hire one from a classic car hire place but I am coming up with nothing. I did find one for sale but it was over £7k (just a bit over the top for a weekend).
Does anyone have any ideas how I can get hold of one? It's for weekend of 16th March. Thanks.

I had a couple and with a full load like that they weren't a nice steer.
did you adjust the tyre pressures if required for full load - they are heavy to park to the kerb in a tight spot unloadedwhat you might find now is how thin the back seat(s) base cushion is, not very comfortable even when new or unused normally, plus it's a four seater really
remember to have all your petrol loyalty cards with you too

(the photo of the Capri looks yellow on my monitor)
ETA: I meant the thin cushioning and springing of the base for the rear seats

That's Signal Amber. I've seen that car advertised in various different places, would love it myself!
I had a Mk2 1.6s in Jupiter Red, 54k on the clock- bought it for £250 in 2004. Stupidly swapped it for a friend's hearing aid beige VW T3 Transporter before moving to Brighton to study at music school. The Capri ended up in Ireland and the T25 ended up on Wheeler Dealers!

Does anyone know the whereabouts of my old beautiful Capri? Still kickin' myself, I should've kept it!

actually I found my Capris very comfortable. With a full load they were dogs though - irrespective of tyre pressure. what you might find now is how thin the back seat base cushion is, not very comfortable even when new or unused normally, plus it's a four seater really

loved the 2 litre one and will have another at some point.

Ha ha - I like the 'only fools and horses' Capri. Though it sees we may have hit the jackpot with this one suggested by quiraing. My dad's Capri was exactly like this - orange and no vinyl roof! I think it was older but this is close enough. Perfect. Thanks guys.

Been looking at this myself on more than one occasion, stunning Capri, same colour as my first car, a 1.6s back in 84'.Unfortunately sold it to a mate who incidentally wrote it off 18hrs later!

Ok. I went with Great Escape Classic Car hire and £500 the lighter. I got their information pack and all looked very professional. I have sent them everything they need for insurance etc. now complete silence and no response to my many emails. Even their phone number appears disconnected. Looks like I've been duped or they've gone belly up. Anyone know?

Sym7, the main number on their website is working. At least it was when I spoke to them earlier this evening. Good luck. Ok, just had the weekend away in the Capri from 'Great Escapes'. Firstly, what a great company. I'm embarrassed that I was doubting them now. They provided a first class service and a great car. It really was strange driving a Capri again......great car. Now all I want t do is buy one.
I would really recommend Great Escapes by the way. They have some really impressive cars and their service is superb.
