Wrong arm of the law, DB4GT chase.

Anyone seen this, it features a DB4 driven by Peter Sellers in a several minute car chase at the end, what i want to know is how the hell did it survive jumping that bridge?

i watched that, what a great film. Although i did wonder if that jump was faked somehow.

Cracking film, watch it quite often - the DB4 was Sellers' own car, as was the white Ferrari he drove when they arrived at the fun fair.

I came across it by chance yesterday, some great street scenes and the A-M was particularly tasty

I missed the beginning, i saw it from when Lional Jeffries got soaked, and yes DB4 aside it was a great film.

Thats what I mean how did they do that, how good were Camera tricks, that car would not have survived that jump.

Freeze that mid jump and you will see the car taking off is a lighter coloured DB4 with exposed headlamps, and the one that then drives into shot is a dark DB4GT .

I still can't believe they killed even an old knackered DB4. Even the Italian Job tarted up a Lancia.

The Lancia bonnet hinged at the windscreen whereas an Aston bonnet hinges at the grille. Noticeable when the bonnet of the "DB4" flies open as it goes down the hillside

Something sticks in my mind that this was Sellor's personal car. I know he was a great car nut and frequently either used cars he owned or bought them after filming

I remember seeing 0167/R driving through the car-park at Le Mans in 1987. At that time it was still in the long-term ownership of a rather striking red-haired lady, who demonstrated it on the circuit prior to the main event.

This was also a particularly famous example of the 75 DB4GTs built. Registered MT40, it was apparently the most "lightweight" of the the regular DB4GTs and had faired-in headlights and a Zagato spec engine from new. Autosport tested it to 152.5mph in 1961. I think it was also the legendary 0-100mph-0 in 20 seconds test car, in an era when most cars needed that much time just to get to 60mph! I think it reappeared in a classic car magazine article in the mid 1980s, which was how I recognised it when I saw it at LM.

Back when I saw it, the car was a medium shade of metallic blue. Images seem scarce on the web, but it seems that it since ended up in America and was resprayed in the usual shade of Aston racing green, with a more racer look than the elegant road car that I remember.
