Polishing Alfin brake drums?

My car has Alfin brake drums at the back which are visible through the wire wheels and I would like to polish them up a bit. Does anyone have any recommendations? I as thinking of using something like a kitchen scourer (greenie) with Solvol Autosol metal polish but before I get the wheels off and start trying I am interested in any other ideas you may have.

I find alloy comes up well with a bit of 1200 grade paper and autosol together, pretty messy but works well.
