MWK 22G

Does anyone remember the first XJ's launched?

I was a young lad then but something sticks in my memory that MWK 22G or MWK23G was stolen and spirited abroad (Belgium seems to ring in my head)

Was this true or a publicity hype?

My only source of info at those ages would have been Car or Motor.

Ring any bells?

Wasn't it an E-type, or maybe an XK?

I remembered seeing something about this a few days ago, while flicking through some old mags.

Motor, w/e Aug 7th 1971, has a mention of this and a photo of MWK 22G in the Motorweek column (page 46). Pinched in Essex.

Don't know why that question even popped into my head- a mine of useless information.

The car isn't insured on MID it would be nice if it's still around.

MWK 22G was the Powder Blue 4.2 o/d press car, tested by 'Motor' in '69. Years later,'Classic and Sportscar' featured an article on buying used XJs. And MWK 22G's owner of many years was interviewed, and able to report many reliable, fun filled miles.
On test, it achieved 0-100 in 24 sec, impressive. STREETS ahead of all rivals in every other department. Never heard of it being stolen.

That indicates to me that SORN is not due, if its licenced it usually comes up licence not due

Really? It looks to me that it's taxed and the liability is August this year, if you look at something like that Interceptor in the rotting thread, the liability is 1990, meaning it's been untaxed and off the road since 1990.

That's the way I've always read the DVLA site.


Actually, what does the SORN not due mean, as opposed to Not Licenced.

I think it is like Martin states, the Jag is currently on SORN so its due date will be August for renewal.
If you look at the Jensen, you will see it has a cost applied to its license. This is probably as it has not been taxed since the rolling tax exemption was introduced (or at least caught this one up) as if it had, it would be free as it is a 67 car.
Therefore, it is classed as Not licensed as it will never have been SORNed or changed to historic tax.

I had to get the DVLA to alter my log book when I revived my Vixen as it was still classed as a PLG and not as an historic vehicle as it had not been taxed since the early 90s.

OK, I kind of understand now. Had to do the same with my Vixen too, although I used to just drive it about with a 1973 tax disc when I first got it and never got any grief.

Maybe next time we hear of it, one of the better quality companies like Robert Hughes will be offering it for sale..?
