Eclectic Cars ceasing to trade on 31st January.

Every single time I saw one of their adverts, I always read it as 'Electric Cars'...
But maybe that's just me.
I drove past one of those yellow AA signs recently, and it said 'Aluminium Welding Exhibition.' Strange, thinks I, that aluminium welding is so popular that there's a whole exhibition about it.
And then I read it again, and it actually said 'Autumn Wedding Exhibiton!'
The brain, eh??!!
But maybe that's just me.

That's sad to hear. I refer you back to my recent post about there perhaps being too many classic car dealers around these days.
In fact the one dealership I have direct buying experience with was Eclectic Cars. I know they've only been going for few years, but they did bring some new ideas to the marketplace, most obviously the studio photography, which many have sinced copied (eg 4* Classics). They were always very enthusiastic and interested in their stock, which was often an unusual mix of vehicles. They were brilliant to work with during and after my purchase and always glad to see me if I popped back in for a gander on my travels.

I'm glad you had a good buying experience but whilst they may have presented the cars well, they failed to offer good value. There are lots of classic car dealers doing well out of buying stock at the right price, preparing that stock to an acceptable level and selling at a slightly inflated price to cover the service they offer.

The motor trade is all about selling cars for profit( I know!).
Bit like the big retailer that went bust having burnt £50m, Autoquake, plenty on PH said what a great website, dealer, 50 pics every car etc etc. I asked how many of these people had actually bought a car off them, the answer was none.
Its a very tough trade at the minute with minimal margins,severe stock supply problems and increasingly demanding customers, and SOGA requirments.

Agree with your initial comments but that last one.......not sure how you can call it pretentious unless you do not know the meaning of eclectic.This outfit did themselves no service by having such a pretentious name either.
Latest FB update is that they are keeping the work shop / current projects going under the name Classic Car Project Shop.
Interesting how Eclectic have been around for quite some time and only have 533 'likes' on FB whereas KGF Classic Cars have been around for a far shorter period of time and have 14,650 'likes'. I know a popular FB doesn't guarantee success of your business, but it does seem like some businesses are capitalising from what it has to offer and others are not.
