Pre war cars

Hello Pistonheads. I love pre war cars. Especially modified like this one:


I would love to see more like this.

I'd love to do a hotrod Austin 7 but finding a willing owner or someone with a good enough shell proved difficult so I gave up on the idea.

That car is the Hornet Special ...built my a mate of mine. Featuring 2 x V Twin engines chained together. And due to be upgraded to 4 x V twin.

I really, really wouldn't want to be sitting between those driving chains. The proposed upgrade reminds me of the old John Bolster special which similarly had two and then four engines. Huge fun.

There are lots of events through the year. Prescott is the best known and is wonderful. (3rd & 4th August this year.)

They do lots of other vents though, I got my first VSCC award at Brooklands in January, rather pleased with myself

Well I love pre-war cars too; but I also value my skin. For God's sake get a cover on those drive chains; and stop wearing baggy jackets. I find it hard to look at that pic without my eyes watering!

Jeez - if that drivetrain set-up was in a workplace setting it would be shut down immediately. Does each chain give a different drive ratio, i.e its a two speeder?

The chains are pretty much covered.. protected by steel mesh and a cover plate. A bit exposed along the bottom but that's out the way. Anyway, those chains are only tiddlers.

These, on the other hand, are proper chains



So there you have it. Perfectly safe!

Ha ha, that's brilliant. You can see me looking at the map to remind myself where I was going. Better to be slow but get the route correct!

He lost reverse in one of the tests, unfortunately it was one where there was a lot of reversing! He got out and pushed it where required.

There are a few pre war owners nutters on here, they do occasionally pop out of the garage and out of the woodwork.

Not sure whether I'm a nutter, but cetainly an owner. I'm currently repainting my Alvis Firefly:



and I've got the bits for a special based on a 1933 Singer with a Riley twin cam engine waiting to be built.

BTW, it's the VSCC Pomeroy trophy at Silverstone tomorrow, always great fun, though the weather forecast looks a bit ominous!

I've just been out trying to put the roof up on the car, but it was so cold I couldn't feel my fingers!

I'm beginning to think I should go to the Pom in something warm and modern.

Ive been going to a car show for bout 2 years, had a nice amount of pre war cars, Bugattis, Jags, a rather expensive early Aston.

Personally I love the 6c Alfas, Gransport is just awsome.
